Welcome to South Bay Retina, an ophthalmology clinic specializing in diagnosis and treatment of vitreo-retinal disease. We offer care at two locations to serve the San Jose and Gilroy communities. South Bay Retina was established by Dr. Keshav Narain to provide state of the art diagnostic and therapeutic technology for the retina, the part of the eye that acts like the film in a camera where images are projected.
While pursuing his medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine, he completed externships in Inherited Retinal Disease at the Jules Stein Eye Institute (UCLA) under Dr. John Heckenlively, MD and Ocular Pathology at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (Walter Reed Medical Center). During his ophthalmology residency at the New Jersey Medical School, he accompanied faculty on the Orbis Mission to Calcutta, India where he performed eye screenings for Mother Teresa’s orphans and worked with the team to demonstrate pediatric surgical techniques. He then moved back to the West Coast and completed a fellowship in vitreo-retinal disease and surgery at the University of California, Irvine, College of Medicine. For the next decade, he built up his experiences treating patients at the Kaiser Permanente (Bellflower, CA) and Orange County Public Health Department, consulting for other physicians at the Veteran Affairs Medical Center (Long Beach, CA), and providing instruction to UC Irvine residents and physicians in retina, cataract surgery, trauma, and comprehensive ophthalmology. Dr. Narain currently maintains privileges at Good Samaritan Hospital, El Camino Surgery Center, and O’Connor Hospital.

Dr. Narain is an experienced vitreo-retinal specialist and surgeon, offering treatment for retinal detachment, retinal tear, and floaters. South Bay Retina also treats individuals diagnosed with macular degeneration, diabetic or hypertensive retinopathy, retinal vein occlusions, and glaucoma.
Many of the patients who are treated at South Bay Retina are referred from optometrists and general ophthalmologists for evaluation and treatment of serious eye problems.
